Varice: the causes

Varicose veins are due to stagnation of the blood in the veins, by the play of gravity, sometimes because of an obstacle downstream (between the varicose vein and the heart), but mainly because of a malfunction of the valves anti -return.

The anti-reflux system (valves) that is inside the veins is no longer effective. Blood stagnates below. Due to significant pressure inside, the veins dilate under the skin. It will form in the more or less long term a varicose cord more or less tortuous, more or less hard, more or less painful.

Varicose veins are one of the signs of venous insufficiency. They are not always very visible, sometimes they are absent especially at the beginning of the disease. Also, venous insufficiency is more common in women.

Many causes promote venous insufficiency of the lower limbs:

  • overweight,
  • a family inheritance,
  • a lack of muscle exercise,
  • age,
  • standing or prolonged sitting and trampling,
  • pregnancy,
  • a warm atmosphere (summer),
  • waxing with hot wax,
  • shoes with high heels,
  • clothes too tight (socks, pants ...).

There is also a family cause for the development of varicose veins, since if parents suffer from significant venous insufficiency, their children are more likely to suffer as well.
