Tracheitis: Symptoms

As it is written above, the symptoms of a tracheitis are mainly a cough, and more precisely a dry cough, still called irritative. It is indeed the irritation of the mucous membrane of the trachea which is at the origin of this cough.

This cough is difficult to repress, to control, which can occur during the day or at night.

Another symptom may be pain (especially when coughing) in the trachea region ... the respiratory lining is so "raw" that it hurts. It is rare that the trachea is inflamed, often this inflammation also affects the bronchial mucosa or that of the larynx (laryngitis). In this case, other symptoms occur, such as a broken voice in case of laryngitis.

When these symptoms last more than 3 weeks, it is called chronic tracheitis.

Indeed, there are two types of tracheitis:
Acute tracheitis is characterized by throat pain and cough lasting for several days. In general, its evolution is benign and without sequelae: generally, an acute tracheitis heals spontaneously.

Tracheitis is said to be chronic when symptoms persist beyond three weeks. If cough persists over time, it will be necessary to perform additional tests to verify the cause of this chronic inflammation of the trachea, in order to intervene with appropriate treatment.
