There is no cure for Raynaud's disease. The idea is to relieve the symptoms so that they become much more bearable. This translates to a few tips every day. In particular, its ends are effectively protected during the winter.
For disabling forms of the disease, there are treatments to reduce the frequency of seizures or surgery (rarely indicated). Other solutions are to protect your hands from exposure to the cold. The specialist of this condition is a vascular physician.
In addition, people who suffer from this disease often have dry skin. A good hydration thanks to a suitable cream makes it possible to decrease the sensitivity to the change of temperature.
For smokers, a priority: stop smoking. This greatly improves the symptoms.
If practical advice is not enough, this is particularly the case when the profession involves contact with the cold, the doctor may prescribe treatments.
- Vasodilators : these tablets will be taken generally during the winter period to temporarily improve the sensitivity to cold.
- Calcium inhibitory drugs : if Raynaud's disease is still too disabling, we can switch to calcium channel blockers. But these drugs, very effective, can also have a lot of side effects (headaches, hot flashes ...).
- As for the surgical operation, it is practiced in very rare cases and only when the outbreaks of Raynaud 's phenomenon are severe and arise from another disease (arteritis or scleroderma).
This is an endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy. Clearly, we cut a nerve under the armpit to cause the dilation of the vessels.
