Laryngitis: treatments

Laryngitis treatments vary depending on the cause and location of the inflammation.

1 - Subglottic laryngitis

The situation can be distressing for the child, as for those around him.

Above all, it is urgent to calm everyone down. It is recommended to keep the child warm in a humid atmosphere if possible (for example, in the bathroom by running hot water into the bathtub or kitchen by boiling water in a bathtub. casserole), reassure him, cajole him, tell him that it will pass, and offer him to stop coughing as long as possible between each coughing fit.

It is necessary to call the doctor who will make the diagnosis by telephone, and give advice while waiting for his visit. The latter must eliminate an epiglottitis and treat the small patient by steroids (in drops) if the crisis does not stop spontaneously. This treatment will, as a rule, have an almost instantaneous effect.

2- Epiglottitis

It's a medical emergency: you have to transport the patient to the hospital quickly and by the UAS. Emergency intubation and corticosteroids (general and / or local) are the two main treatments for epiglottitis.

Fortunately, it has become rare thanks to vaccination against haemophilus influenzae.

3 - Laryngitis of the big child and the adult

The treatments for these laryngitis are those of the cause. If it is infectious, the treatment is based on an antibiotic. If laryngitis is secondary to gastroesophageal reflux, it should be treated.

Aerosol treatment with corticosteroids may be helpful in decongesting the larynx and improving speech.

Rehabilitation of the speech therapist can also be indicated, for example for teachers, singers or actors, who will have to learn to spare their voice.

Any prolongation of symptoms beyond 15 days requires medical advice.

Sciatica: the causes

The cause of sciatica is usually related to a herniated disc. Between two vertebrae there is a "damper" system called an intervertebral disc. It is composed of a nucleus in the center, surrounded by a cartilaginous ring. This disc is the cause of the majority of sciatica. Following a violent or repeated effort, but also because of a local fragility of the intervertebral disc, the damper system may be loose
