Salpingitis

A salpingitis corresponds to the inflammation of a uterine trunk (or both). It is of infectious origin, and may result in infertility, or promote the occurrence of an ectopic pregnancy (because of the sequelae caused by infection inside the trunk). Salpingitis is most often secondary to a low genital infection. Young women, aged between fifteen and forty, are the most affected.

The fallopian tubes are two ducts connecting the ovaries to the uterus. They play an essential role at the very beginning of pregnancy, or more precisely during fertilization. It is in fact inside the tubes that fertilization occurs when the ovum and the spermatozoon meet. Then the egg thus fertilized will slowly descend to the uterus to nest (nesting).

Acute salpingitis can manifest as important symptoms, such as lower abdominal pain, fever ... and can have serious consequences if not treated properly. But sometimes, the symptoms are more discreet.

It is a general practitioner that can be consulted first, but the care of the patient suffering from salpingitis is usually provided by a gynecologist.
