Quitting smoking is a real challenge for some people ... for those who are particularly addicted to tobacco!
Nicotine is the main factor of physical dependence on tobacco. But there is also a psychological dependence, which results in an irrepressible desire to smoke in certain situations: meetings, parties, coffee, stressful situations.
When one is used - for years - to light a cigarette in very specific circumstances, it is extremely difficult to give up this familiar gesture. Quitting smoking means separating from a gesture that is an integral part of everyday life. And to the psychological and physical dependence is often added the fear ... to take kilos after stopping the cigarette.
But then, how to stop smoking? Overnight or little by little? On vacation or, on the contrary, in times of intense activity to not have time to think about cigarettes?
There is no miracle and there is no general solution applicable to all. However, there are some rules and tips that make weaning easier.
How much are you addicted to tobacco?
The Fagerström test, used by doctors and pharmacists, assesses tobacco dependence. So, are you addicted to tobacco? Take the test to find out!
When to quit
It is better not to try to wean oneself if the professional or family situation does not lend itself to it (period of intense professional activity, personal problems ...). It is better to choose a quieter time (on holidays for example).
Some want to stop suddenly while others try to wean themselves more gradually. Some will choose symbol dates.
In any case, to increase your chances, it is better to go to a smoking cessation consultation such as is currently available in many hospitals.
The lack of smoking syndrome: what is it?

- impaired concentration, decreased effectiveness for tasks requiring sustained vigilance,
- increased appetite, palatability for sugar, weight gain of 2 to 3 kilograms,
- cough,

- brutal cravings for cigarettes.
