Arnica: all she can heal

Bobo, pain, blue ... and then we think very often of arnica. But why exactly? What is arnica? And what are its exact effects?

Arnica is a plant that belongs to the botanical family Asteraceae. Arnica montana, according to its Latin name, is native to the European median highlands, especially in France. It grows in altitude, on inclined and acid soils.

Arnica has the appearance of a large yellow-orange daisy, with a pale green stem covered with small odorous hairs called trichomes. When making homeopathic medicines based on arnica montana, it is the fresh and whole plant that is used because all its parts contain many chemical processes.

Arnica is known for its medicinal properties and has been used since antiquity as a cure for its pain-killing properties. This plant contains indeed active molecules with anti-inflammatory, venotonic, antiseptic and antioxidant properties (sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids, etc.).

The mother tincture of arnica, solution obtained after 4 manufacturing steps (maceration, expression, filtration, control), is the basis of homeopathic medicines.

Homeopathic medicines based on arnica are traditionally indicated to relieve the symptoms of traumatic diseases :

  • blue,
  • hematomas,
  • edema,
  • contractures or muscular pains, etc.

Arnica in homeopathy

How is the arnica plant transformed into a homeopathic medicine?

In the manufacture of homeopathic medicines based on arnica, so we use the mother tincture of the plant.

Before they can be transformed into mother tinctures, plants undergo quality controls to ensure that they comply with the standards of the European Pharmacopoeia in which the Good Manufacturing Practices for homeopathic medicines are defined.

As soon as they arrive in the laboratory, the plants are therefore subjected to phyto-chemical analyzes. Once verified their conformity, the process of transformation can begin, in order to extract the active ingredients of arnica through a process that foresees different stages.

We start with the one called " maceration ". This step involves putting the fresh plant in contact with a hydro-alcoholic mixture for about thirty days, inside stainless steel containers, to allow the active ingredients of arnica to migrate into the liquid.

This hydro-alcoholic mixture is subsequently recovered by an expression and filtration process, in order to obtain a mother tincture which will serve as a basis for the manufacture of homeopathic dilutions. Finally, the mother tincture is checked to ensure that it complies with the Good Manufacturing Practices for homeopathic medicines.

Heart rate: the maximum heart rate

The maximum heart rate (HRM) is the maximum speed at which the heart can beat in one minute. It is calculated by subtracting its age, in year, from 220. Thus, the FCM of a person of 25 years is equal to 195. This is an average rating that varies, of course, from person to person. As a safety measure, if you start a sport and you want to achieve maximum heart rate, it is recommended to talk about it before your doctor, if you have a certain age, or that you be a smoker, sedentary
